Mission Devotional - October 22, 2016

Opening Prayer: Lord Jesus, let our hearts be ready and waiting, open to receive the life that you alone can give. Amen.

Scripture: Luke 12:35-40

Journal: How is your lamp these days? Are you living with a constant sense of attentiveness and readiness? Why or why not? What would cultivate a sense of awareness and readiness in your life?

Reflection: There are no two ways about it. You've got your eyes open or you don't. You're watching at midnight or you're not. You better be ready when it comes flying at you, skimming swiftly over the surface of time.

The cares of this world are no excuse. Not father, mother, wife, nor children. No burials or births or weddings. Not fixing formula, scrubbing toilets, peddling pills or prose. Whatever the great human enterprise currently in hand, the point is to watch. All the rest is addenda. Seeking the kingdom is the essential integer. Prayer for the church, for others, for myself

Bruce and Laura Harris have been running SEND International's camp and conference ministry in the mountains of western Tokyo for many years. Pray today with Bruce and Laura for SEND International Japan as plans proceed toward new church plants in the least-reached areas of Tokyo and its surrounding communities. The Harrises are returning to church planting and ask that you pray for this transition and for their replacements in leading the camps. Pray also for a monthly English Bible class and several unsaved ladies who attend.

FOCUS (Following Our Choices Unto Success) works in the Knox County Jail and Detention Facility, Taft Youth Center, and the four men's prisons of East Tennessee. The FOCUS work "Behind the Walls" includes evangelistic events, weekly support groups, discipleship classes, life-skills classes and one-on-one counseling. Pray today for the work of FOCUS.

Closing Prayer: Lord God, our Heavenly Father, during this day and this season help us to prepare our hearts for your coming, whatever that may look like. Come, Lord Jesus! Come and visit your people; we eagerly await your coming. Give us eyes to see it and hearts to receive it. Come, Lord Jesus! Amen.
