Lonsdale School Summer Food Delivery
Join us as we deliver food once a week to families in Lonsdale.  Throughout the year there are certain low income children at Lonsdale School who are sent home each Friday with a backpack filled with canned food.  These backpacks are supplements to get them through the weekend until they can have a hot meal at school on Monday.  The school discontinues the backpack program in the summer.  Cedar Springs will be stocking the packs each Tuesday afternoon beginning June 17 and distributing them in the community every Wednesday between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p. m. beginning June 18.  If you would like to help pack or deliver the food or for more information, please contact the CSPC Compassion Ministry Office (692-5503) or kathysmith@cspc.net.

SOAR Youth Ministries Summer Lunch Program
Cedar Springs will be taking a team to SOAR Youth Ministries each week this summer to prepare lunch for kids in the summer program.  The dates of service are Wednesdays, 6/18-7/30, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  If you would like to serve on one of these dates, please contact the Compassion Ministry Office (692-5503) or kathysmith@cspc.net.

Hispanic Bible School
July 16, 17 and 18 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Cedar Springs will be partnering with El Puente, Fellowship Church and Ekklesia to hold a Hispanic Bible School at the SOAR facility in Lonsdale.  Volunteers are needed for food preparation, crafts, Bible School follow-up, teaching, set-up, prayer, Mom’s group, music, and clean up.  If you are interested in helping, contact the Compassion Office at 692-5503 or kathysmith@cspc.net.

The Refugee Resettlement Ministry
We are looking for people to be part of the team that seeks to reach out and minister to the next refugee families that arrive in Knoxville. Please contact Almaz Gemechu (291- 5282 or almaz@cspc.net).

Help Stock the FISH Food Pantry
FISH, a non-profit, all-volunteer organization, currently provides food packages to over 6,000 families each month in four Knoxville locations to people who are most in need.  Every year Cedar Springs stocks one of the FISH pantries with groceries for one month.  In addition, a group from the church delivers food from the food pantry once a month to those in need.  On June 27, from 10:00 am until 1:00 p.m. volunteers are needed to meet at Food City and load a truck with groceries to take to the food pantry and then unload the truck and stock the pantry.  If you are interested in helping, contact the Compassion Office at 692-5503 or kathysmith@cspc.net.  If you would like to join the team that delivers the food on the 29th of each month please contact Jim Davis at 216-3956.

Be a Vacation Volunteer for CAC Office on Aging
Office on Aging programs that rely on volunteers throughout the year need summertime volunteers who can fill in for year-round volunteers while they are on vacation.  It is a great opportunity for youth on summer break to get hands-on experience serving others in the community.  It is also a rewarding way to spend some of your free time this summer, with or without your school-age children or grandchildren.  Some ways to help are:
Mobile Meals: Deliver hot, nutritious meals to homebound senior citizens between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • Computers for Homebound & Isolated Persons (CHIPS): Refurbish donated computers for use in participants’ homes, to install computers in homes, and to mentor participants in the use of e-mail, Internet, and basic software.
  • Project LIVE: All ages can help do escorted errands (to the grocery store, doctor’s office, etc.); minor home repair; and yard work.
  • Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP): Recruits senior volunteers to work in non-profit agencies around the community – matches skills and interests with opportunities.

Office on Aging volunteers receive on-going training and support.  To find out more about Office on Aging volunteer opportunities, call 524-2786.
