Short-Term Missions

Procedures for Team Leaders

  1. Qualifications:
    1. You must meet CSPC short-term mission trip guidelines.
    2. You must have short-term experience with CSPC.
    3. You must have interviewed and been approved by the Global Mission Group Leadership.
    4. You must attend leaders training.

      (A mentor is available through the Global Mission Group Training and Trips Team if person has never led a short-term trip with CSPC.)
  2. For new trips, you must submit a proposal for the trip to the Global Mission Group Training and Trips Team. You will be contacted for an interview with this Team. Repeat trips will be approved based on the feedback from the previous trip.
  3. You will be responsible for choosing team members who must comply with the guidelines.
  4. You will be responsible for training and preparing the team members. You will be expected to organize the team before, during and after the trip. In particular, you will be expected to foster prayer and fellowship before and during the trip. Contact the Global Mission office to pick up a Team Leader's Manual. In particular:

    1. For every trip, a file will be opened to manage the administration aspects of the trip. These include: application forms, support raised, expenses incurred, etc. At the end of the trip the completed file will be handed to Administration who will ensure the correct accounting of the trip finances. This file will be kept in Accounting for record purposes. An appointment should be made eto meet with the church accountant several months before your trip to discuss the procedure for bookkeeping and fundraising. (Call 291-5246).

    2. Training: The Team Leader is expected to cover the following aspects:
      1. What are short-term mission trips
      2. What is the objective of the trip? Why are we going on this trip?
      3. A brief overview of the country/region that the team is going to, especially with respect to a mission history of the country.
      4. An overview of the missionaries/ministry the team is going to (where applicable). In particular, the team should know what the ministry is, what their objectives are and what special issues they face.
      5. Research and present to the team the culture, history, customs, religions, language(s) etc. of the people.
    3. Preparing: Spiritual goals of the trip, the goals and expectations of the missionaries/ministry, keeping track of applications, check for visas and/or passports, short-term insurance, and necessary immunizations of team.

      2. See Leader’s Manual for short-term insurance opportunities for the team.
    4. Organizing: Details and logistics of team, trip, and daily activities. Keeping communication with missionaries.

    5. Fostering Fellowship: Praying together, team-building activities, social gatherings, using the team’s dynamics, and building community.

    6. Finances: Turn in team support checks to Accounting Department. Keep track of all expenses, team support, and details before, during, and after the trip. Organizing this information to turn in to Accounting Department upon return.
  5. You should make a presentation to a Sunday School (children, youth, or CU) prior to going to the field, and report to the same group upon return.
  6. You must report back to the Global Mission Group Training and Trips Team after trip.
  7. You will be encouraged to keep a daily diary on the field.
