Opportunities to Give Back this Holiday Season

Thanksgiving Food Drive, Oct. 29-Nov. 20
Pick up a box (provided by Cedar Springs) and fill it with the listed items. Boxes must be returned no later than Sunday, November 19. Volunteers are needed Sunday, Nov. 19 from 3-5 p.m. to prepare boxes for pick up and delivery, and Monday, Nov. 20 beginning at 7:30 a.m. to load and unload frozen turkeys, help carry boxes to cars, and make deliveries.

Operation Christmas Child (Samaritan's Purse), Oct. 29-Nov. 19
Share the love of Jesus Christ with a needy child in countries from Nicaragua to Madagascar by filling a shoebox with gifts. Brochures and the boxes will be available for pick-up in Reception Hall Sunday mornings beginning Oct. 29 until they are gone. Return boxes by Nov. 19. Contact Cary Lewis (carylewis@cspc.net or 865-291-5270) for more information.

Refugee Thanksgiving Celebration Saturday, Nov. 11
This will take place in the Watershed from 1-4 p.m. The afternoon will include traditional Thanksgiving food, international treats brought by our guests, and a pot-luck meal as well as fellowship, activities for the children, and a performance by the WordPlayers' Playback Theater Troupe. Volunteers are needed to make the families feel welcome, help with the meal, and help with games and activities for the children. Angel Tree, Nov. 12-Dec. 3
The names of the children who are recipients are given to us from ministries, inner city schools, and social service agencies. Gifts must be returned by Dec. 3. Pick up your angel in Reception Hall on Sunday mornings beginning Nov. 12. Angel Tree Distribution at Lonsdale Monday, Dec. 11
Volunteers are needed from 7:30-11 a.m. and 4-5:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11 to help with the gift distribution and crafts at Lonsdale Elementary School. For more information contact Alison, alisonfleetwood@cspc.net or 291-5261.

Thanksgiving Luncheon at Cagle Terrace Wednesday, Nov. 15
Cagle Terrace is a low-income high rise apartment complex located near Sutherland Avenue. We will entertain the residents with a Thanksgiving luncheon catered by Buddy's at noon. Norwood Community Thanksgiving Celebration Saturday, Nov. 18
The luncheon, for refugee and American families in the Norwood Community, will take place at Northwest Middle School from 12:30-4 p.m. The afternoon will include a meal and fellowship, activities for the children, and ethnic dancing. Volunteers are needed to make the families feel welcome, help with the meal, and help with games & activities for the children. Salvation Army Bell Ringers, Nov. 27-Dec. 2

'Light Up Lonsdale' Wednesday, November 29
(bring lights to Cedar Springs Reception Desk before Nov. 24)
Donate Christmas lights (new or used) to Thrive Lonsdale before Nov. 24 then bring your family or group on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. for a time of food and fellowship before hanging the lights up in the Lonsdale community. WOM 'Christmas Joy' Luncheon Saturday, Dec. 2
Ladies who are staying in area women's shelters will be treated to a luncheon at the church at noon on Saturday, Dec. 2. Contact Debbie Smith, 865-335-8977 for more details or to volunteer.

Hope Center's 'Hope for the Holidays' Celebration Thursday, Dec. 7
Cedar Springs hosts this party each year for the patients and their families to enjoy a hot meal, Christmas carols, and share laughter and memories. Volunteers are needed to help serve the luncheon and/or fill a Hope Bucket (available in Reception Hall Nov. 12); click here for "The Story of the Hope Bucket" and a list of needed items.
