This Christmas you can share the love of Jesus Christ with a needy child in a country like Afghanistan or Kosovo. Operation Christmas Child is an easy mission project that every family member can participate in by bringing a gift-filled shoebox to church. Brochures and boxes are
provided.
Cedar Springs is partnering again this year with the Salvation Army to distribute Christmas stockings to infants, children, teenagers, and to the elderly. Stockings and age-appropriate lists are provided.
Recipients of gifts from the Angel Tree are children from various neighborhoods in Knoxville. These children are usually not on any other list to receive gifts through programs like the Empty Stocking Fund, Toys for Tots, and other gift-distribution organizations. The children’s names are provided by ministries, inner-city schools and social service agencies that know of children who are in need and who might otherwise “fall through the cracks.”
Christmas Hope Buckets originated with the Hope Center at Fort Sanders Hospital. This Center works with terminally ill patients. The buckets are filled with needed items and are intended to give the patients a spark, sometimes their only spark, for the holidays. The purpose of the "Hope Bucket" is to give a gift of useful nature to those living with HIV-AIDS or other incurable diseases. Buckets are provided along with a list of what to buy.
Women from area shelters are brought to Cedar Springs for lunch and a special program and then treated to a shopping spree at Wal-Mart to buy gifts on their family members’ wish lists. To volunteer to help at the luncheon, call 693-9331 and ask for the Compassion Ministry office. This event is scheduled for December 3.
Cedar Springs will be hosting the Ft. Sanders Hospital Hope Center Christmas celebration again this year. This is a party for the terminally ill. All of the children of these patients are given presents and Hope Buckets at the party. If you, your family, Bible study group, CU or Sunday School would like to provide presents for these children, or if you would like to volunteer, please call 693-9331. Volunteers are needed between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on December 8.
