Chapel Concert #4: March 15, 2012
[ Return to Music Academy Home ]
Come, and enjoy an evening of violin and piano music. On Thursday, March 15, Rob and Kate Sivy will present works for violin and piano by Johannes Brahms, Arnold Schoenberg, and Erich Korngold.
While composers of the late nineteenth century sought to stretch the boundaries of functional harmony, Johannes Brahms embraced the harmonic organization of the past by studying the works of ancient composers including that great master of counterpoint Johann Sebastian Bach. This concert will celebrate the music of Brahms and two composers who were greatly influenced by him: Arnold Schoenberg, admirer of Brahms's music and developer of the twelve-tone composition; and Erich Korngold, the creator of the symphonic film score who brought the Brahmsian style to the silver screen in the early twentieth century.
