Andrew McCoy

Born and raised in Hodgenville, KY, Andrew was exposed to music at an early age, but did not discover the guitar until sixteen. While studying chemistry in college, he decided to move to Nashville, where he devoted his studies and time to classical guitar and composition at Belmont University. Andrew graduated in December 2005 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition with a Principal in Guitar. He recently received a Masters at the University of Tennessee in Jazz Studies.

From January 2007 until August 2008, Andrew served as a faculty member at the Forerunner Music Academy at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City. A player of all types of music, mainly blues, jazz and classical, Andrew believes that worship can and should include various musical styles.

 


 

Brad McIlwain

Brad McIlwain, Director of the Cedar Springs Music Academy, graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Middle Tennessee State University in 2007. He performed extensively during his college years all over Nashville and as far as South Korea and Mexico. In 2002, he had the opportunity to perform in the Semi-Final round of the National Trumpet Competition at George Mason University near Washington D.C. When he was not performing, he maintained a private studio of 10 to 15 students from local middle and high schools.

In December of 2007, Brad joined the Worship Staff at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church under the leadership of West Breedlove, Director of Music Ministries. One of his roles has been to work with West and the worship staff in developing the CSPC instrumental program. This endeavor led to the conception of the Cedar Springs Music Academy in the fall of 2008 which has grown into an outreach music education program serving over 100 students in the Knoxville community.

David McLendon

David began studying piano at the age of 11 and, after years of private instruction, obtained a B.M. in piano performance from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS.  After teaching piano, voice and guitar and leading worship for several years, he returned to graduate school at the University of Oklahoma and is now at the University of Tennessee pursuing a Masters degree in choral conducting.

David’s main passion is being involved in and equipping others for musical worship.  He has led worship in various denominations and churches throughout the U.S. and abroad.  Most recently, David served as the worship pastor for the youth at Woodland Hills Church in Saint Paul, Minnesota.  His favorite color is green.

 


 

Dee Ann Symington

Dee Ann Symington is a graduate of Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee, with a B.A. in Piano Performance, and A M.M. in Piano Literature from the University of Tennessee. She has taught piano in the Knoxville area for 30 years. Her students enjoy a variety of learning experiences which include: private and group lessons, recitals and auditions, pop, sacred, jazz and classical sytles of repertoire, the ability and knowledge in technique and theory are pursued also. Young beginners are taught using the Suzuki method, and a variey of piano methods are used to teach students to read music. Her husband, Ed, and their two teenagers enjoy the gift of music with their individual instruments. As a family they have been a part of worship music in a few churcehs in the area.

 


 

Emily McCoy

Emily, a native of Knoxville, grew up in a musical home and began taking violin lessons at age three. She was drawn to the piano at age nine, followed quickly by vocal lessons. Emily is a 2006 Graduate from Belmont University in Nashville, TN, with a Bachelor's of Music in Commercial Music, Voice Principal, Composition and Arranging Emphasis, and recently received a Masters at the University of Tennessee in Jazz Studies, with an emphasis in piano and arranging. She has written and arranged for orchestra, big band and string quartet, as well as classical, jazz, gospel, and acapella choral groups. She is a respected studio singer and musician, and has been part of many worship projects, including recordings of many of her original songs and arrangements.

From January 2007 until August 2008, Emily served as a faculty member at the Forerunner Music Academy at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, where she was also a worship leader. Emily has traveled throughout the U.S., performing and leading worship with various groups, and has was on staff as a worship leader at Succat Hallel, a 24/7 House of Prayer in Jerusalem. Emily has eleven years of teaching experience, and makes an effort to focus on incorporating solid musicianship with true worship in all her musical endeavors.

 


 

Glenda Cloutier

Mrs. Glenda Cloutier grew up in nearby Anderson County, but has been enriched by study in Chicago at Northwestern University with members of the Chicago Symphony during her formative years.  Since that time, she has performed with major orchestras such as the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony, and the Minnesota Orchestra.  She continued studying with venerated trumpeters such as Manny Loreano and James Thompson throughout her career as a performer and teacher.  Her educational background includes work in the field of Music Education and Music Therapy.  Her broad background is wonderfully suited to teaching musicians of all ages and ability levels, and she delights in such a fulfilling vocation.

Heather Duncan

Heather Duncan received a Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in sacred music and voice from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1993. While there, she was a soloist for both the UT Concert Choir and Women's Chorale and was in the UT Opera Theater program for four years. Her final year, she studied voice with world-renowned jazz singer and instructor Patty Coker and was a front person for the UT Big Band--Brand X. After graduating she formed her own jazz band, which performed at various venues around Knoxville in the late 90's. She also sang with the Knoxville Opera chorus for two summers performing in their acclaimed "Music of the Night". For the last 20 years, Heather has directed several homeschool and church choirs that reflect her wide experience and interest in various genres. She is currently co-director of the Trinity Christian Academy Youth Choir, a group which has had the privilege of performing with other area vocal groups including the Love United Gospel choir in several community outreach programs. She is currently working on her first CD project which combines her love of classical music with that of contemporary praise and worship.

Teaching approach

Ms. Duncan merges traditional, classical vocal instruction with an instrumental approach to singing (treating vocalists as musicians) utilizing listening to repertoire, ear training, theory, and sight reading which are developed both in the classroom and at home. Students of Ms. Duncan can be assured they will learn the basics of proper vocal technique as well as confidence in their musicianship whatever their intended goal.

Kaitlyn Ferry

Kaitlyn started playing the violin at age eight. She studied for ten years at Indiana University’s String Academy where she had the opportunity to perform throughout the United States and France, including a performance in Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall. She received her degree in Instrumental Music Education from Milligan College in 2007. Kaitlyn’s professional experience includes teaching elementary and middle school music in northeast Tennessee, performing with symphonies in Indiana, Tennessee, and Ohio, conducting the Symphony of the Mountains Youth String Ensemble, and teaching violin, viola and Kindermusik. Kaitlyn has always been an active member of her church’s music ministries and encourages students to use their talent and passion for music to worship and serve God. She teaches both Suzuki and Traditional methods to students of all ages.

Kate Sivy

Kate Sivy earned a Master of Music degree in piano performance from the Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in piano performance from Geneva College. For over ten years Kate has been teaching piano lessons to students of all ages ranging from beginner to advanced levels. Currently, she is an adjunct professor of piano at Bryan College and enjoys accompanying for the Knoxville Ballet School and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville School of Music. Recently Kate has performed solo and chamber music and has provided accompanying services for a variety of vocal and instrumental performers. She has also adjudicated several piano competitions, including the Knoxville Music Teachers Association Auditions and the Rhea Arts Festival piano competitions in Dayton, TN. Kate has held leadership positions in the Chattanooga Music Teachers Association, during which time she taught at the Cadek Conservatory of Music in Chattanooga, TN and the Bryan College Community Music School. Kate has also served for several summers as a guest piano instructor and accompanist for the Escuela de Música at the Maranatha Church in Acapulco, Mexico. She and her husband Rob have a son, Michael, and reside in South Knoxville.

Rob Sivy

Rob Sivy holds a MM in music theory from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville as well as a BA in violin performance and a BS in music education from Geneva College. He has studied violin with Christopher Wu of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra; he also studied in Pittsburgh, PA with Leo Ficks and in Atlanta, GA with Vera Ilyushina. Rob has performed with a number of orchestras, including the Pittsburgh Philharmonic and the East Tennessee Symphony Orchestra. From 2006 to 2009 Rob had the privilege of teaching high school music theory and history as well as directing several ensembles, including jazz and concert bands and orchestras for annual musicals at Chattanooga Christian School. He has also served for several summers as a guest violin instructor for the Escuela de Música at the Maranatha Church in Acapulco, Mexico. Rob has provided private instruction in violin for more than 10 years and has taught at prominent music institutions such as Musik Innovations in Pittsburgh, PA and at the Cadek Conservatory in Chattanooga, TN. He currently resides in South Knoxville with his wife, Kate, and son, Michael.

Troy Rodgers

Troy began taking private drum lessons at age 7. He excelled in playing drums and percussion throughout his school years and graduated from Lee University with a BA in Church Music with an emphasis in percussion. Troy has played in many diverse ensembles including symphonic band, marching band, various jazz ensembles, percussion ensembles, choral groups and theater. Along the way he has also learned various world/ ethnic percussion instruments. Troy has also played drums in many worship settings. He has been a worship leader for the past 14 years and most recently was the senior worship leader for six years at Lionheart Fellowship in Louisville, TN. His strongest desire is to bless and glorify the Lord through the creativity of music and also to raise up anointed musicians to worship with passion and excellence.
