Worship & Music at Cedar Springs
orchestra
Cedar Springs has a variety of instrumental chamber ensembles (strings, woodwinds, brass, guitar, and full orchestra) both for Sunday morning and community worship opportunities.
Open to: Anyone college-aged and above. There is no audition. Older high school students (junior/senior) are considered for this group provided they have demonstrated they can play the music at this level.
Experience needed: Enough to be able to play the music with the group. This can vary, but is normally at least 2-3 years. See the director (291.5286 | bradmcilwain@cspc.net) for questions about your own individual situation.
Rehearsal time: Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30 p.m. (the guitar ensemble rehearses on Thursday 6:00-7:00 p.m.)
Rehearsal location: Chapel (the guitar ensemble rehearses in the studio)
Purpose:
Support the Sunday morning worship once a month at both the 9:00 & 10:45 a.m. services.
Lead worship in special services including Lessons and Carols and Easter.
Participate in outreach opportunities with the Knoxville Christian Arts Ministries.
Small ensembles may provide background music in the lobby before services.
Absences: Absence for work and family events is not a problem provided you work with the director in advance to allow us to make arrangements to cover your part. The orchestra is home to many busy professionals with work and family responsibilties. Few are professional musicians, just very dedicated amateurs.
