"Psalm 1"

Scripture Reading:

Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish. - Psalm 1 ESV

Prayer for our Pastoral Search Team: O Lord, for those on our pastoral search team, may they be guided in their task and be protected from the "advice" from the enemy to give up. Don't let them be discouraged by the negative responses they receive.

Help them to delight in you and in the work they have undertaken. As they listen and reflect on the choices before them, may they be strengthened, enlightened, cautioned and directed. Keep them focused on you, day and night, renewed and filled each day by the power of your Spirit within them. Watch over their path and lead them to the pastor of your choice.

Prayer for our Congregation: O Lord, keep us as a congregation true to you. May we not be tempted to give up on you and seek our own way. Help those who may be weak in faith not to give up on you. Instead, may we all find encouragement, joy and guidance as we obey your word and study it regularly. Help us to grow like trees – with our roots being fed and nourished by the waters of Scripture. May our faith be fruitful and vibrant as we witness to your faithfulness. Guide us and protect us from the evils of discouragement in our waiting.

Prayer for the new Pastor and his family: O Lord, may our new pastor and his family find joy in obeying your word. May he find refreshment in studying and learning about you day and night. Enrich him and make him the man you want him to be so that as he preaches your word, many will come to faith in you. May our new pastor be filled each day with fresh insights about you, and be renewed in you each morning. Give him a successful ministry now and when he comes to us.

Prayer for our mission partners

J & F live and work in one of the poorest and most heavily populated states in a country in Asia. They are seeking to make a difference in this state in both physical and spiritual realms. They have been operating a micro-finance business that is creating self-sustaining means of support for churches and church plants as well as continuing to provide funds for the installation of hand pumps to provide clean water to needy areas of the state. Pray today for J & F who recently returned to Asia after some time in the U.S. this summer helping J's parents.

Cedar Springs adopted the Lonsdale community in 2003. Lonsdale Elementary, with more than 400 students PreK through 5th grade, only serves the Lonsdale area. Over the years, the racial make-up of the school, whose students are 100% free lunch qualified, has changed to primarily Hispanic and African-American children. Pray today for all the children that attend Lonsdale Elementary, their families, and their teachers as they begin the new school year.

Closing Prayer: Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.
