O Lord, my heart is not lifted up;
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvelous for me.
But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child is my soul within me.
O Israel, hope in the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore. - Psalm 131 ESV
Prayer: O Lord, forgive us when we get too full of ourselves - when we get a little too big for our britches. Forgive us when we fall in love with our own observations and opinions and begin to take ourselves far too seriously. Forgive us when we begin to think that we can handle things on our own, or make things happen for ourselves. For when we do these things, we take up all the space and leave no room for you to move and to act.
Humble us, O Lord, and make us like little children in the arms of their mother. Not children who are needy and demanding, but weaned children who are still and calm, safe and secure and satisfied. Content to just be held in your loving embrace. For that is what our hearts - and yours - most deeply long for. Amen.
Prayer for our mission partners
H and L serve in Asia. H serves as a coordinator for their agency's efforts to facilitate the development of local mission movements within one country in Asia, particularly for reaching the peoples of East Asia. L is working to connect Asian citizens who have become Christians while studying abroad with local churches in their own countries upon their return. Pray today for the churches of Hong Kong that have been affected by the recent protests in the city. The issue that is causing the protests is bringing division among the members of the churches. Pray for unity within the churches.
The focus of Navigators International at UT Knoxville is the over 1,000 international students at the University of Tennessee who come from 100+ nations. Spouses and family networks back home multiply the potential for the gospel to spread. Navigator's mission is to advance the gospel of Jesus and His Kingdom to the nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling among the lost. Pray today for the leaders of this ministry and for the international students as they make begin the fall semester.
Closing Prayer: Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.
