"Psalm 131"

Scripture Reading:

O Lord, my heart is not lifted up;
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvelous for me.
But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child is my soul within me.

O Israel, hope in the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore. - Psalm 131 ESV

Prayer: O Lord, forgive us when we get too full of ourselves - when we get a little too big for our britches. Forgive us when we fall in love with our own observations and opinions and begin to take ourselves far too seriously. Forgive us when we begin to think that we can handle things on our own, or make things happen for ourselves. For when we do these things, we take up all the space and leave no room for you to move and to act.

Humble us, O Lord, and make us like little children in the arms of their mother. Not children who are needy and demanding, but weaned children who are still and calm, safe and secure and satisfied. Content to just be held in your loving embrace. For that is what our hearts - and yours - most deeply long for. Amen.

Prayer for our mission partners

Mike and Stephanie have begun a new work with World Outreach (EPC) with ITEN (International Theological Educational Network). Mike's role allows him to engage in three areas of ministry he loves: teaching, writing and preaching. ITEN seeks to train trainers who will equip their own people to live on mission for the glory of God among the unreached. Pray for Mike and Stephanie as they wrap up the summer and begin their fall schedule.

The Restoration House (TRH) is working to help restore single mothers and their children back to God's good intent for their lives. Through transformational housing, team mentoring, and service planning, TRH is helping single mother families end cycles of poverty and distress. Pray today for the moms at TRH who are seeking full-time jobs to provide the financial stability they need. volunteers as they begin the new semester.

Closing Prayer: Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.
