"Psalm 130"

Scripture Reading:

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord!
O Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my pleas for mercy!

If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
that you may be feared.

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
and in his word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning,
more than watchmen for the morning.

O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with him is plentiful redemption.
And he will redeem Israel
from all his iniquities. - Psalm 130 ESV

Prayer: O Lord, hear the deepest cries of our hearts and souls this day - not only individually but also corporately. Hear all the ways we long and yearn and groan for your redemption to come - for all things to be made right once again and finally become all they were intended to be. Only you can make that happen, O Lord, so our hope is in you. You are the One who is full of unfailing love and you are the One who offers full redemption. We can't do it ourselves, no matter how hard we try.

So we wait for you, O Lord. We wait for you to show up. We wait for you to come and make things right once again - both within us and among us. We wait for you, O Lord, more than watchmen wait for the morning. Thus, we wait expectantly, knowing full well that you will come, that sun will indeed rise again, it is only a matter of time. So we wait.

And while we wait, O Lord, help us to resist the temptation to take matters into our own hands. Help us to resist the urge to try and make things happen on our own. Help us to fight the impulse to try and manage or control or manipulate our circumstances. Keep us, O Lord, from growing frustrated or impatient and help us to truly find our hope in you. Amen

Prayer for our mission partners

Jeff and Ellen work among unreached people groups in two restricted access countries of Southeast Asia catalyzing Church Planting Movements. Pray today for the Lahu Aga people. They continue to be under relentless attack from the enemy through opium and meth addiction and governmental pressure. Pray also for healing for Jeff as he recovers from some medical issues and for Ellen who is caring for him. They ask that you pray that they might both be able to travel in September.

Knoxville Christian Arts Ministries (KnoxCAM) is an outreach ministry directed by Dr. Jill Lagerberg. It uses the talents of singers, instrumentalists, dancers and handbell ringers. They minister primarily to prisons and the inner city. They perform up to 10 concerts each year, telling stories of God's unfailing mercy and providence through fully integrated music dramas. Pray today for KnoxCAM as they prepare for the new performing season.

Closing Prayer: Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers.
