Today's Devotional Reading
Listen: Listen to the words of this ancient prayer and listen for the prayer of God that rises in your heart:
God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Come and see the works of the Lord,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. (Psalm 46, NIV)
*Read through the Psalm several times slowly.
Journal: How is God leading you to pray today? What words or images seem most alive to you? Why? Sit before God in prayer today and allow him to speak through these words or images. Then offer whatever arises within you back to him in prayer.
Prayer for the church, for others, for myself
Forgive us, O Lord, when we allow our circumstances to get the best of our fearful hearts. When we allow what is going on around us to determine what is going on within us. When we start running around helter-skelter, out of fear and anxiety and insecurity, trying to manage and control things that are completely out of our control. Thank goodness they are not out of yours. After all, you are the Lord God Almighty. You are the God of angel armies. You are the God who fights for us and the God who is always with us. You are the God of Jacob. You are the God who both wrestles with us and who transforms us. You are the God who rescues us, who delivers us, and who is ever-faithful to us. You are our fortress, our refuge, our strength, and our ever-present help. Help us, O Lord, to trust in you. So much so that we are actually able to be still and know that you are God.

Mike and Stephanie have begun a new work with World Outreach (EPC) with ITEN (International Theological Educational Network). Mike’s role allows him to engage in three areas of ministry he loves: teaching, writing and preaching. ITEN seeks to train trainers who will equip their own people to live on mission for the glory of God among the unreached. Pray today for Mike and Stephanie in this new work.
Knoxville Inner City Kids Outreach (KICKO) is a para-church ministry with a mission to “Mobilize the Message of Hope” to the at-risk children in our inner-city neighborhoods. This is done through a unique program called Sidewalk SONday School. Large trucks, outfitted to take the church into these communities, allow them to share the gospel with children at multiple locations each week. Pray today for all the families that KICKO will touch this month.
