Today's Devotional Reading
Listen: Listen to the words of this ancient prayer and listen for the prayer of God that rises in your heart:
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever. (Psalm 23, ESV)
*Read through the Psalm several times slowly.
Journal: How is God leading you to pray today? What words or images seem most alive to you? Why? Sit before God in prayer today and allow him to speak through these words or images. Then offer whatever arises within you back to him in prayer.
Prayer for the church, for others, for myself
O God, our Good Shepherd, thank you that in you we have all we need; there is no reason to want. You love us, you care for us, and you provide for us in ways that we could not possibly provide for ourselves. You, O Lord, are enough. Help our hope and our trust to always be only in you.
Thank you for making us lie down in green pastures and leading us beside quiet waters. Thank you that if we are willing to do both of those things you promise to restore our souls. Thank you for leading us in paths of righteousness for your name’s sake. Thus, help us to always care more about your name and your kingdom and your will than we do about our own.
Thank you that you promise to be with us in our darkest hours - when the journey seems hard and uncertain - comforting and protecting us so that we are able to live in love and not in fear.
Thank you that even now you are preparing a table for us. You are using this time of transition to make a space and prepare a feast for all of us to enjoy, even as our enemies would try to convince us otherwise. And thank you that even now you are giving our heads a fresh anointing of your life and your Spirit, in order than we might be healthy and whole and ready for all you will do in and through us - both in this season and the season to come. All of this should definitely make our cups overflow with love and gratitude and thanksgiving.
Thank you, O Lord, that not a day goes by - or will go by - when you are not constantly pursuing us with your goodness and your love. Give us the grace and the strength and the courage to dwell in that love every minute of every day. Amen.

Mostafa and Mona Sharkawy serve among Arab Muslims in the U.K. Their goals are to see Arabic churches arise from Muslim background believers, to see new generations of leaders from Muslim believers, and to teach and prepare them for future ministry. Pray today for the continuing ministry inside the Immigration Removal Centre in West London for refugees who have arrived in the United Kingdom. Pray for opportunities and protection for Mostafa as well as open and willing hearts for the detainees as they become curious about faith and engage in conversations with Mostafa.
