Opportunities to Give Back this Holiday Season

Thanksgiving Food Drive, Oct. 21-Nov. 18
Pick up a box (provided by Cedar Springs) and fill it with the listed items. Boxes must be returned no later than Sunday, November 18. Volunteers are needed Sunday, Nov. 18 from 3-5 p.m. to prepare boxes for pick up and delivery, and Monday, Nov. 19 beginning at 7:30 a.m. to load and unload frozen turkeys, help carry boxes to cars, and make deliveries.

Operation Christmas Child (Samaritan's Purse), Oct. 28-Nov. 18
Share the love of Jesus Christ with a needy child in countries from Nicaragua to Madagascar by filling a shoebox with gifts. Brochures and the boxes will be available for pick-up in Reception Hall Sunday mornings beginning Oct. 28 until they are gone. Return boxes by Nov. 18. Contact Cary Lewis (carylewis@cspc.net or 865-291-5270) for more information.

Refugee Thanksgiving Celebration Saturday, Nov. 10
This will take place in the Watershed from 1-4 p.m. The afternoon will include traditional Thanksgiving food, international treats brought by our guests, and a pot-luck meal as well as fellowship, activities for the children, and a performance crafted by our own Leann Dickson. Volunteers are needed to make the families feel welcome, help with the meal, and help with games and activities for the children.

Angel Tree, Nov. 18-Dec. 9
The names of the children who are recipients are given to us from ministries, inner city schools, and social service agencies. Gifts must be returned by Dec. 9. Pick up your angel in Reception Hall on Sunday mornings beginning Nov. 18. 

Angel Tree Distribution at Lonsdale Monday, Dec. 17
Volunteers are needed from 8-11 a.m. and 4-5:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17 to help with the gift distribution and crafts at Lonsdale Elementary School.

Thanksgiving Luncheon at Cagle Terrace Wednesday, Nov. 14
Cagle Terrace is a low-income high rise apartment complex located near Sutherland Avenue. We will entertain the residents with a Thanksgiving luncheon catered by Buddy's at noon. Volunteers are needed to help with the meal, fellowship with the residents, and join in bingo after lunch.

'Light Up Lonsdale' Wednesday, November 28 
(bring lights to Cedar Springs Reception Desk before Nov. 23)
Donate Christmas lights (new or used) to Thrive Lonsdale before Nov. 23 then bring your family or group of friends on Nov. 28 from 6-8:30 p.m. for a time of food and fellowship before hanging the lights up in the Lonsdale community. WOM 'Christmas Joy' Luncheon Saturday, Dec. 1
On Saturday, December 1, Women on Mission will be hosting a special Christmas luncheon for ladies who are staying in area women's shelters. For more information or to help with this women-only event, please contact Debbie Henn at debbiehenn@hotmail.com or 865-560-6228.

Hope Center's 'Hope for the Holidays' Celebration Thursday, Dec. 6
Cedar Springs hosts this party each year for the patients and their families to enjoy a hot meal, Christmas carols, and share laughter and memories. Volunteers are needed to help serve the luncheon and/or fill a Hope Bucket (available in Reception Hall Oct. 28); click here for "The Story of the Hope Bucket" and a list of needed items. Buckets must be returned by Sunday, Dec. 2.

Christmas at KICKO
Help make Christmas special for a child right here in our city. Toys can be brought to one of the collection barrels in the CSPC Children's Ministry Area (approximate value $10) until December 9. Suggested items are: Football, Basketball, Nerf Gun, LEGO Set, Board Game/Family Game, Barbie/Similar Doll, Craft Kit, Small Girl Character Toys (LOL Surprise!, Shopkins). FOCUS Ministries Angel Tree Party Saturday, Dec. 15
On Dec. 15 from 10 a.m.-12:00 p.m. we will be joining Central Baptist Bearden as they provide a fun family atmosphere, Christmas activities, delicious baked treats, and Angel Tree gifts, all as a way to minister to children of incarcerated parents. Most importantly, we'll be sharing the love of Jesus in a tangible way to children who need the reminder that God is their Heavenly Father and they are not forgotten. Families with young children are welcome!
