Stock or Mutual Funds
You can donate appreciated securities - stock, mutual funds, bonds, and ADRs (American Depository Receipts) - and often receive a greater tax benefit than you would receive as compared to selling the appreciated securities and then donating cash. Donations of appreciated securities are recorded as a charitable gift at the appreciated amount. Also, by donating appreciated securities you can avoid recording a capital gain in the security (assuming the investment has appreciated and that you have held the asset for more than one year). You should check with a tax professional before initiating any transfer of securities. If you would like to donate securities you can initiate the transfer through your broker and request that the securities be transferred to:
Account Name: Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church
Account Number: 1399-0621
DTC #: 0164
Please contact Torrey McMurray at 865-291-5203 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you are considering this kind of gift so that we can understand how you would like this gift to be designated and send you a tax receipt promptly.
For gifts of securities, please note that it may take four to five business days from the time your broker initiates a stock transfer to Cedar Springs until the settlement date when the proceeds are credited to CSPC's account and recognized as a gift.
You can make a gift to Cedar Springs via a Donor Advised Fund, such as Fidelity Charitable Giving. Please keep in mind that your tax receipt will be issued by the Fund, not CSPC. CSPC will include any Donor Advised Fund gifts on your contribution statement, under the 'non-tax deductible' section. Please advise the Donor Advised Fund with the instruction of which fund (eg, General, Global Missions, Capital Campaign) the gift is intended.
The Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church Foundation was formed to facilitate the stewardship plans of Cedar Springs members and supporters by giving them an avenue to make gifts in coordination with their long-term financial plans. The Foundation can receive estate bequests, endowments, gifts through living trusts, memorials, and donations with specific use designations. Should you desire more information or wish to make a gift to the Cedar Springs Foundation, please contact Torrey McMurray at email@example.com or 865-291-5203.
In addition to contributing to the General Fund, you may also designate gifts to many specific funds such as:
- Disaster Relief Fund
- Middle East Relief Fund
- Europe Refugee Crisis
To contribute to a specific fund, simply select either the One-Time Donation or Recurring Donation buttons above and designate the amount you wish to give to appropriate account/fund after you log in.
The IRS provides clear guidelines concerning the date of posting contributions which we follow carefully. All contributions received or postmarked by December 31 will be included in that year’s contribution statement. If the contribution is received or postmarked after December 31, it will be included in the contribution statement of the year in which it is received/postmarked—regardless of the date on the check.
