We'll continue our study of Acts this week with a look at Peter's words from chapter 3 verses 11-26. He essentially is preaching the gospel here to the people in Solomon's Portico so that's what we'll sing about!
"Christ Our Hope in Life and Death"
We're looking very forward to singing this all together for the first time and hope you are as well! The first verse opens up that gospel theme for the morning. "What is our hope in life and death? Christ alone, Christ alone. What is our only confidence? That our souls to him belong. Who holds our days within his hand? What comes apart from his command? And what will keep us to the end? The love of Christ in which we stand."
"Nothing But the Blood"
We wanted to spend some time singing specifically about the atonement. This is a special hymn suited to do just that. "What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus."
"The Lord Is My Salvation"
We'll then end the corporate singing with another gospel presentation for all of life's many situations. The song ends with an appropriate response to tie a bow around the set: "Glory be to God the Father, glory be to God the Son, glory be to God the Spirit, the Lord is my salvation!"
Response – "Come, Behold the Wondrous Mystery"
We'll partake of the Lord's Supper together after hearing the Word preached. We'll then be sent back into the world with a grand summation of everything we've heard from the gospel again this morning. The third verse does well to encapsulate the truth from all of our songs this morning. "Come behold the wondrous mystery, Christ the Lord upon the tree. In the stead of ruined sinners hangs the Lamb in victory. See the price of our redemption, see the Father's plan unfold. Bringing many sons to glory, grace unmeasured, love untold."
