We'll begin a new series this week entitled, "Jesus Is Better." This will be a study through the book of Hebrews that'll take us to the end of the year. Each week as we walk through the text, we'll see how Jesus is indeed the true and better version of so many things! This week, we'll simply open with the first four verses of chapter 1.
"Praise to the Lord the Almighty"
Each of our songs this week are simple magnifications of what God has done through his Son, Jesus Christ. This one opens as more of a sung call to worship as we praise our God for who he is and for what he's done. "Praise the Lord! Let the earth hear his voice. Praise the Lord! Let the people rejoice. Come to him through his Son and give him the praise for the things he has done!"
"His Mercy Is More"
We'll continue with the "Praise the Lord" theme while turning to a specific attribute worthy of praise – his all-encompassing mercy towards his people. "Praise the Lord! His mercy is more. Stronger than darkness, new every morn, our sins, they are many, his mercy is more."
"Is He Worthy"
The corporate singing will conclude with a look at the book of Revelation as we see Jesus seated in glory and coming again to make all things new. The arch of the singing will then be: Praise him for who he is, for what he's done, and for what he'll come again to do. "Is anyone worthy? Is anyone whole? Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll? The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave, he is David's Root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave. From every people and tribe, every nation and tongue, he has made us a kingdom and priests to God to reign with the Son. Is he worthy? He is!"
Response – "What a Beautiful Name it is"
We'll be sent back into the world just as we began, with a proclamation that God is worthy of all our praise and there is none beside him! "You have no rival, you have no equal. Now and forever, God, you reign. Yours is the kingdom, yours is the glory, yours is the name above all names. What a powerful name it is, the name of Jesus Christ my King. What a powerful name it is, nothing can stand against. What a powerful name it is, the name of Jesus."
